Homey Portal UK pre-order — £249 for the first batch

Athom opened UK pre-orders for Homey Portal on 1 September 2026. The 2.8-inch tap-and-twist smart-home controller is £249 on the Homey UK shop for the first production run, then £299. A desk stand and wall mount come in the box. Homey is taking orders first-come, first-served and says they should ship before the end of 2026. That is the firm’s own first-batch price, not a High Street cut against a made-up RRP.

The hardware is a 2.8-inch round touchscreen wrapped in a stainless steel ring, USB-C powered, for a desk or a wall. You tap icons, then twist the dial for lights, volume and temperature. Homey assigns each Portal to a zone — kitchen, living room, bedroom — so anyone in the room can use it without opening an app. Athom’s launch note is on Homey’s news page.

Lights: tap the room on or off, twist brightness, drag colour and warmth. Speakers: album art on the screen, twist volume, swipe tracks. Climate: glance at temperature and humidity, then twist the target. There is also energy, a timer and weather if you already have Homey set up for that. Energy figures need a Homey Energy Dongle or a third-party smart meter; on Homey Cloud, Premium is required unless you use the dongle. Portal cannot replace a boiler thermostat. It only drives thermostats Homey already talks to.

Portal is not a hub. The Verge is clear on that: it needs Homey Cloud (free for the first five devices), Homey Pro from 2023 to 2026, Homey Pro mini, or Homey Self-Hosted Server. US and EU intro prices match the UK ticket at $249 / €249, then $299 / €299, with December shipping called out there. Android Authority covered the same IFA launch. If you are not already in Homey’s stack, the controller is an extra box, not a way in.

UK pricing on Homey’s shop: one Portal £249, later £299. Duo pack £488 (was £498). Triple pack £727 (was £747). The bundles save £10 and £20 against two or three intro units — real, but thin. Three rooms at the later £299 would be £897 before you count a Pro or Pro mini. There is no NiftyDeals deal card for Homey Portal this morning. Buy from Homey UK. Do not expect a Currys or John Lewis price here; neither had a listing when we looked, and inventing one would be worse than leaving a gap.

£249 is a lot of money for a 2.8-inch controller that still needs Homey behind it. If you already run Homey Pro and want a physical dial in the kitchen, the intro batch is the only discount Homey is offering, and it is first-come. If you wanted a hub, this is not it. Pre-order on the Homey UK shop, or wait until someone has one in a British house and can say whether the twist is worth the ticket.
